In a notable first-round clash at Wimbledon, British number one Emma Raducanu is matched against teenage wildcard Mimi Xu. If Raducanu secures a victory over the 17-year-old, she will advance to face either 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova or 32nd seed McCartney Kessler in the second round.

Currently ranked 38th in the world, the 22-year-old Raducanu just missed out on a seeding, presenting her with a challenging draw. Should she progress, she could potentially meet world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the third round.

Fellow British teenagers Hannah Klugman and Mika Stojsavljevic, both receiving wildcards, are also confronted with difficult matchups against seeded opponents. Klugman, aged 16, will face Canadian 29th seed Leylah Fernandez, whom Raducanu famously defeated to clinch the 2021 US Open title. Stojsavljevic, the US Open junior champion, will begin her campaign against American 31st seed Ashlyn Krueger.

Among the 10 British players in the women’s singles draw, half are set to compete against seeded players. Katie Boulter, who was recently overtaken by Raducanu as Britain’s top player, faces off against Spanish ninth seed Paula Badosa. Meanwhile, British number three Sonay Kartal will take on Latvian 20th seed Jelena Ostapenko, and 33-year-old Heather Watson, who also received a wildcard, will compete against Danish 23rd seed Clara Tauson.

The prestigious grass-court Grand Slam event commences at the All England Club on Monday.
