1930s Green URANIUM GLASS BOWL

1930s Green Uranium "RESTWELL" GLASS NESTING bowl by HAZEL ATLAS. THIS BOWLS URANIUM CONTENT CAUSES IT TO FLOURESCE UNDER A UV LIGHT SOURCE, EMITTING A BEAUTIFUL IRRADESCENT GREEN GLOW. THIS LARGE BOWL MEASURES 10.5" DIAMETER AT RIM AND 5" TALL.

Uranium glass, also called Vaseline glass was made by putting uranium salts into the glass during manufacturing. The uranium salts gave the glass a beautiful yellow or green color and that is why they used it. Uranium glass is called vaseline glass because many of the pieces look like petroleum jelly (vaseline) with its shiny (greasy), light yellow, transparent color. Uranium glass is radioactive which at the time of its manufacture was not understood clearly. The glass does register on a geiger counter, but at so low an amount that it is generally understood to be safe for normal use. Do to the fact that it is radioactive also makes it visible in UV (black) LIGHT.
