The "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" (Qingming Shanghe Tu) is a handscroll painting depicting the bustling prosperity of Kaifeng, the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty in China.
The original is housed in the Palace Museum in Beijing, but many copies exist.
It is believed to be the work of Zhang Zeduan, a Hanlin Daizhao (court painter) and a well-known artist of the late Northern Song Dynasty.
It depicts the people of the capital, Dongjing Kaifeng Prefecture, enjoying themselves and thriving during the Qingming Festival.
The season is in the height of spring, and along with its value as a detailed pictorial representation, it is also of great historical value as a depiction of the city and customs of the time.
◾️Size:
Height: Approximately 30cm
The receipt indicates August of the 69th year of the Republic of China.
The paper box has stains due to long-term storage.
There are creases on the gold foil at the beginning of the handscroll, and stains on the outermost back. The printed surface itself is relatively clean.
There is some slight rippling of the paper due to aging.
The handscroll is long, and I cannot show all of the artwork, but it appears to be free of stains and tears.
